Hailey Van Lith will be playing for a different women’s basketball program next year.
She entered her name into the transfer portal when LSU’s season ended and according to head coach Kim Mulkey, Van Lith made the decision because she wants to play her normal position again.
“Her aspirations were to get drafted this year,” Mulkey said, via Reed Darcey of NOLA.com, “and she realized, ‘I need another year, and I need to go back to a place where I can relax and get back to my normal position.’”
Van Lith was LSU’s starting point guard and commanded the offense as she was coming up the court. Both were things she didn’t do during her three years at Louisville.
With Louisville, she scored more because she was playing in an off-ball role. She only averaged 11.6 points and 3.6 assists per game this season but averaged 19.7 points per game during the 2022-23 season.
She also averaged 14.4 points per game during the 2021-22 season.
LSU recently lost to Iowa in the Elite Eight after winning the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
Let’s see where Van Lith decides to transfer to for next season.
