Michael Thomas is set to miss just his second game for the New Orleans Saints since being drafted back in 2016, having gone down with a high-ankle injury in their Week 1 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Thomas has not been designated to the injured reserve list yet, and the Saints can return him to action after three weeks if that does happen per new NFL rules. So for now, the expectation is just that he will miss a few games while recovering.
So who fills in during his absence? The Saints finally invested in a legitimate No. 2 receiver this offseason by signing veteran free agent Emmanuel Sanders, so they won’t be putting a less-experienced player like Tre’Quan Smith or Deonte Harris into a spot they aren’t ready for. New Orleans also has pass-catchers at other positions like tight end Jared Cook and running back Alvin Kamara, plus maverick quarterback Taysom Hill.
