The New Orleans Saints added nearly a dozen players on Monday, and now it looks like another one is on the way. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Saints expect to sign free agent cornerback Desmond Trufant after a successful tryout in front of coaches, which ESPN’s Mike Triplett confirmed.
Trufant, who turns 31 on Friday, figures to compete as a backup behind Marshon Lattimore and Ken Crawley while providing a possible buffer from rushing Paulson Adebo onto the field, unless the rookie outplays him in practice. He’s likely a better option as the team’s fourth cornerback than P.J. Williams would be — look for Williams to remain the team’s dime back and primarily play free safety, though he can move back to corner in a pinch.
