How many plays would you guess the New Orleans Saints have run in 2020? And which players would you expect to have the highest snaps counts? To find out, I went through the data at Pro Football Reference and found the season totals on offense (259), defense (273), and special teams (117) through the first four weeks of the 2020 season, then combined them all and ranked all 55 Saints players to get on the field by participation.
The results were, in some cases, a little surprising. But here’s how it shook out for the top 30 players in snaps played so far, which conveniently broke off at 100 reps (16.0%) of the grand total. Of the 30 players to log more than 100 snaps, five were first-year members of the Saints (veterans Malcolm Jenkins, Emmanuel Sanders, and Margus Hunt; rookies Cesar Ruiz and Malcolm Roach), with 2020 draft pick Adam Trautman barely missing the cutoff at 99 snaps played (66 offense, 33 special teams).
