The New Orleans Saints sent the NFL into a frenzy on Thursday morning, after a report emerged that the organization was furiously trying to move up into the top 10 of tonight’s first round. Throughout the day, media members frantically tried to figure out which player general manager Mickey Loomis might be targeting that high in the draft.
According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, if the Saints moved up from No. 28, it wouldn’t be to take a quarterback. However, a counter report claimed that if one rookie gunslinger is available, New Orleans would be willing to “change their minds.”
According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, Loomis has been “working the phone” to make a massive move into the top 10. She supported the idea that the Saints weren’t looking for a quarterback that high, but did claim that there is one QB that New Orleans would take if available.
“I was told Saints GM Mickey Loomis is working the phone, trying to trade into the top 10, per sources,” Russini wrote on Twitter. “The primary reason isn’t for a QB, it’s actually for another position. Although, there is 1 QB (not named Trevor) who would change their minds if he was still available.”

Naturally, everyone started to wonder which quarterback the Saints might be interested in.
Russini’s report adds some substance to a tweet from ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky earlier on Thursday, where he said he “wouldn’t be shocked” if Loomis wants Mac Jones, if the former Alabama star starts to slide down the board.
“If the Saints are trying to get into the top 10–I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s for if/when Mac Jones starts to slide if not taken by SF at 3,” Orlovsky tweeted just an hour before Russini revealed the new information.

Assuming that Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson will be off the board in the first two picks, the Saints will have to keep a close eye on the San Fransisco 49ers at No. 3. Depending on who John Lynch and company take, Loomis might need to re-calibrate.
If the Saints don’t end up with a quarterback, cornerbacks Patrick Surtain Jr. or Jaycee Horn have been mentioned, along with offensive tackle Penei Sewell as potential options.
We’ll find out later tonight, if the Saints are able to trade into the top 10 and which rookie they want to add to the roster.
