The New Orleans Superdome Officially Has A New Name

The New Orleans Superdome is one of the most iconic venues in NFL history — and now, the 76,000-plus capacity stadium has official taken on a new name.

Caesars Entertainment agreed to buy naming rights for the Saints stadium back in March with a massive 20-year deal that pays nearly $11 million per year. And on Thursday, the Join Budget Committee approved its new name: “The Caesars Superdome.”

Aligning itself with the popular casino, the Saints seem to be embracing the ever-changing landscape of sports betting in America.

Louisiana insider Greg Hilburn of  of USA Today broke the news this morning.

Built in 1975, the Saints’ home was originally called the Louisiana Superdome. That name held for 36 years before it received it’s most recent Mercedes-Benz Superdome title.

After a $210 million renovation project was completed during the 2010 and 2011 offseasons, Mercedes purchased a 10-year naming rights deal that lasted all the way through this past 2021 season. The luxury car manufacturer decided not to re-up its contract with the Saints after purchasing the naming rights for the Atlanta Falcons stadium with a monumental 27-year, $324 million deal in 2018.

This new deal with Caesars will help the Saints pay for a recent $450 million Superdome renovation that kicked off earlier this year in January.

New Orleans will make their debut in The Caesars Superdome with a Week 1 matchup against the Green Bay Packers on Sep. 12.
