Former Saints head coach Sean Payton is inching close to a deal with one of the top TV networks. According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, the Super Bowl champion is in deep negotiations with FOX Sports.
Payton would be a studio analyst for FOX’s NFL Kickoff show that airs on Sunday mornings. He would also contribute to FOX NFL Sunday, per Marchand’s report.
Despite rumors about him potentially replacing Troy Aikman, FOX has not had any discussions with Payton about him being a game analyst.
That being said, NFL fans like the idea of Payton joining FOX’s football coverage.
“Good spot for him,” one fan said. “I thought he was gonna be there #1 color commentator honestly.”

“Good choice by Payton here,” another fan tweeted.
Good choice by Payton here. Now if only we can get a Kay Adams update. I found her to be the best thing about GMFB. https://t.co/cqzGEgZVM1

It’s important to note that a deal between FOX and Payton has not been finalized at this time.
Amazon has also shown interest in Payton for its Thursday Night Football pregame show, but it sounds like FOX is the front runner for his services.
Even though Payton is about to join the TV industry, he could always return to the sidelines to coach football again.
