Broncos head coach Sean Payton is reportedly about to add a familiar face to his roster.
According to Mike Klis, the Broncos are expected to sign former Saints wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith to their roster early next week.
Smith was released from injured reserve earlier this week. Saints head coach Dennis Allen somewhat explained the team’s thought process behind that decision.
“We couldn’t have kept him on IR because he was actually healthy, so we had to make a decision at that point in time,” Allen said. “We just made the decision to release him and give him the opportunity to sign with someone else.”
Other teams have stepped up interest in free-agent WR Tre’Quan Smith but he is expected to sign with Broncos early next week, per source. #9sports

Smith, a former third-round pick out of Central Florida, was drafted by the Saints in 2018. At that time, Payton was their head coach.
Obviously, Payton knows what Smith brings to the table both as a receiver and run blocker.
In five seasons with the Saints, Smith hauled in 131 passes for 1,764 yards and 18 touchdowns. Unfortunately, injuries have prevented him from reaching his full potential.
