The New Orleans Saints have decided to waive rookie draft selection Jordan Jackson. Jackson, a sixth round pick out of the Air Force Academy, had 27 tackles for a loss and 12.5 sacks during his college career. He led the Saints defensive tackles in snaps played during their preseason games (80) but struggled to make much headway. Still, it’s surprising to see the team punt on a rookie draft pick so quickly.
The Saints have had a pretty deep defensive tackle room for a while now, just in terms of solid pieces. It was going to take a solid showing to stick around, and Jackson just never stood out in training camp or during the preseason. Jackson had just two tackles total in the preseason. It is likely that the defensive tackle will return on the practice squad when the dust settles.
