Harris brings depth and experience to multiple backfield positions.
The New Orleans Saints are signing a one-year deal with former Detroit Lions defensive back Will Harris.

Given his versatility in the defensive backfield, Harris adds an interesting element to the Saints’ secondary. He was drafted out of Boston College as a safety but has been used as both a safety and corner in Detroit. He was also a valued member of multiple Lions’ special teams units.
Harris has five years of NFL experience. Last season, Harris appeared in all 17 games for the Lions but only recorded 18 total tackles and one interception. However, in 2022, Harris recorded 57 total tackles, four pass deflections, and one interception.

It will be interesting to see which positions Harris is assigned in training camp. After drafting former Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry, it appears that safety might be the bigger team need.
Regardless of defensive positioning, Harris started 357 snaps on special teams last season. Expect to see a similar usage this season under Saints special teams coach Darren Rizzi.
