Could be a sneaky good move.
While the New Orleans Saints draft is officially complete, some roster holes still remain. Due to the team’s state going into the NFL Draft, an outcome like this was expected, so the Saints were expected to target some of those positions they could not address by going into free agency. The Saints have already started this process by signing DE/OLB Chris Rumph II.
The #Saints have signed veteran DE Chris Rumph II to a one-year deal. Rumph previously played for the Chargers under new Saints DC Brandon Staley.

New Saints defensive coordinator Brandon Staley actually drafted Rumph in his first draft as Chargers head coach, so there is a direct connection is there. With the Chargers, Rumph contributed as an outside linebacker on their defense, but last season, he was out for the year with a foot injury. This signing may be overlooked, but Rumph has a chance to make a real difference on this defense. Right now, the Saints do not have a player on the roster that has played OLB in the NFL, and because that is an important aspect to Staley’s defense, the Saints needed to address this at some point. This signing is New Orleans addressing this position. He has with playing experience already in the NFL and has shown talent to get sacks so Rumph could have a large role with the Saints.
