Do you think the Saints will struggle on the road?
The New Orleans Saints were perennial postseason contenders during the final three seasons with Drew Brees at quarterback.
Now, with Jameis Winston at the helm, the Saints have been written off as a true threat in the NFC. This week, though, the Saints are generally expected to take care of business Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks. According to DK Sportsbook, the Saints are currently 4.5 point favorites against Seattle, and while experts in the NFL media are generally confident in the Saints to beat the Seahawks, there is uncertainty regarding the Saints’ ability to cover the spread.

Geno Smith and Jameis Winston are squaring off in the battle of quarterbacks we never knew we wanted and, yet, we needed. The Seahawks need to win this one. Really badly. To decide if they’re going to sell or not at the trade deadline and maybe launch a run of sorts after Russell Wilson gets back. Anyone else and I’d bank on a longer recovery, but Mr. Unlimited doesn’t adhere to schedules. Geno wasn’t great against the Steelers but they’re finding spots to get him comfortable. The Saints defense is sneaky elite but they’re probably a fair comp for Pittsburgh. And this is a season-flipping win for Seattle if they find a way.

MDS’s take: With Geno Smith in for Russell Wilson, I just can’t see the Seahawks staying competitive. The Saints win and deliver Seattle’s playoffs hopes another blow.

Florio’s take: The Seahawks are good enough to compete but not good enough to beat a competitive team. And their window will be a little closer to being closed after the Saints get finished with them.

Coach Pete Carroll confirmed the Seahawks (2-4) were open to signing the veteran free-agent Cam Newton as a quarterback option while Russell Wilson remained on injured reserve. Geno Smith lost a costly fumble in overtime and took five sacks against the Steelers. His performance does not help one of the worst defenses in the league. The unit ranks 28th in passing yards allowed (1,754) and 30th in rushing yards allowed (845). The Saints (3-2) have been woefully unpredictable. But coming off a bye, they should be prepared to beat a Seahawks team in flux. Pick: Saints -5
