Veteran free agent cornerback Asante Samuel visited the New Orleans Saints in May, and one NFL analyst believes he could finally sign with the team in the coming days. A former second-round pick, Samuel entered the 2024 season hoping to bolster his value with a dominant season. Unfortunately, injuries limited him to just four games and will likely force him to sign a one-year, prove-it contract.
While Asante Samuel comes with his share of risks, Bleacher Report‘s Matt Holder believes the New Orleans Saints are among the best landing spots for the former Los Angeles Chargers cornerback.
“Jeremy Folwer also reported that Samuel met with the Saints in May,” Holder writes. “That pairing would make a lot of sense, as New Orleans is looking to rebuild and could use some help at cornerback after trading Marshon Lattimore to the Washington Commanders in November and letting Paulson Adebo walk in free agency.”

Saints Linked to Former Chargers Cornerback Asante Samuel
The Saints need another cornerback, and Asante Samuel is likely the best option on the open market. As mentioned above, New Orleans lost former lockdown cornerback Marshon Lattimore to the Commanders and watched as Paulson Adebo signed a massive contract with the New York Giants. While it’s probably best for a rebuilding team like New Orleans to let both players leave, somebody must start for this club in the short term.
2024 second-round pick Kool-Aid McKinstry showed some promise as a rookie, but the Alabama product cannot do it all by himself. With no other proven starting-caliber options on the roster, Asante Samuel could be a great short-term fix for this secondary.
