The deal includes the largest full guarantee at signing for any CB in NFL history

One of the biggest offseason questions for the New Orleans Saints was just answered.

Following the Saints’ dominant 38-3 win over the Green Bay Packers to begin the 2021 season, news broke that the Saints had agreed to a contract extension with star cornerback Marshon Lattimore.

More good New Orleans news: Saints CB Marshon Lattimore has agreed to a five-year, $97.6 million contract extension that could be worth up to $100 million, with $68.3 million guaranteed, per sources. It also includes the largest full guarantee at signing for any CB in NFL history

Lattimore has been a mainstay of the Saints defense since being drafted with the 11th overall pick in the 2017 draft, and the move immediately paid dividends as Lattimore performed to the point of winning the 2017 NFC Defensive Rookie of the Year. Since then, Lattimore has played all but four games for the Saints and has tallied five interceptions in three seasons. Lattimore is coming off his worst career year in 2020, giving up eight touchdowns and a 103.1 passer rating against, however the move clearly shows that Sean Payton and company have faith in the former Ohio State man.

This move will make Lattimore the second-highest paid cornerback in the NFL, trailing only Jalen Ramsey of the Los Angeles Rams. This also makes the re-signing of free safety Marcus Williams more of a question mark, as Williams is playing the 2021 season on the franchise tag. However, I wouldn’t be worried too much, because time and time again the Saints have proved they have the salary cap know-how to keep their guys, with this being yet another example.
