Bruce Jordan-Swilling will get an opportunity to follow in his father’s footsteps when fighting for a spot on the New Orleans Saints roster.
According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, the Saints have invited the Georgia Tech running back, and son of former All-Pro linebacker Pat Swilling, to their rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
Originally a linebacker, Jordan-Swilling changed positions in 2020. He recorded 86 tackles and five sacks for the Yellow Jackets, but only handed four carries for as many rushing yards. Jordan-Swilling played just one game as a fifth-year senior last season, so he faces an uphill climb toward standing out in minicamp.
The older Swilling played his first seven NFL seasons in New Orleans, where he tallied 76.5 sacks and 24 forced fumbles in 107 games. The 1991 Defensive Player of the Year earned five straight Pro Bowl nods from 1989 to 1993.
His other son, Tre Swilling, signed with the Tennessee Titans on Saturday as an undrafted free agent. The defensive back also suited up for Georgia Tech, playing 39 games in four years.
New Orleans is drawing a wide net in search of young talent. Following the draft, the Saints signed 17 undrafted free agents.
