For the past few months, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis have been saying there’ll be a quarterback competition in training camp between Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston. On Thursday, we received the very first update on this position battle.
Despite having more experience under center than Hill, Winston didn’t receive the first-team reps to open up training camp. Instead, Hill went first on Day 1 for the Saints.
Hill has plenty of great attributes, but the fan base in New Orleans is a bit skeptical that he can become a full-time quarterback in the NFL.
With that being said, Saints fans were somewhat disappointed when they heard that Hill was the starting quarterback for Thursday’s practice session. In fact, some fans are already asking the team to tank for Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler.
Might as well …. Spencer Rattler me please https://t.co/Lt4wGqBGCO

It’s not all gloom and doom for the New Orleans fan base though. Some fans are taking a levelheaded approach to this quarterback competition.
“Not surprised nor do I care,” a Saints fan tweeted. “They will both have starting reps throughout camp. They have to switch up anyways, part of the ‘observation,’”

And of course, there are a few fans who just enjoy watching all these overreactions this early in training camp.

The Saints are expected to rotate first-team reps between Hill and Winston. That’ll give Payton roughly a month to see which quarterback deserves to be the starter for Week 1 of the regular season.
Who do you think will win the starting job in New Orleans: Taysom Hill or Jameis Winston?
