Saints, Commanders Connected in Possible Blockbuster Trade

July 15, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After spending his entire career with the New Orleans Saints, the Washington Commanders could trade for veteran defensive end Cameron Jordan this summer. Cory Woodrood of USA Today put together a list of 10 possible trades, including Jordan, who the source believes the veteran will be on the move. This trade makes sense for the Commanders, who haven’t done much to invest in their defensive front other than signing Javon Kinlaw and Deatrich Wise in attempts to improve the trenches unit. Washington isn’t looking to add any more defensive linemen, but they can’t ignore investing their future in that department, especially when they lost Dante Fowler Jr., who was arguably their best defensive end last year.

This is where Jordan can come in this situation at the right moment. The trade might not happen before the 2025 campaign as the New Orleans Saints will probably give themselves a fighting chance. However, if they find themselves in the losing category, the Saints might allow Jordan to join the Commanders at the right price, similar to what they did to cornerback Marshon Lattimore last year. Originally selected in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, the former California product’s chances of winning a Super Bowl with the Saints are slim. The team should let the future Hall of Famer join a contender if he wants to, but the Commanders probably won’t be the only roster eyeing him.

Saints, Commanders Connected in Possible Cameron Jordan Blockbuster Trade – Ravens, Chargers Could Intervene

Salvaging Baltimore’s Defense

The Baltimore Ravens are always one step closer to a Super Bowl championship appearance after falling out of the divisional round this past season. After losing Malik Harrison, Jadeveon Clowney, Geno Stone and Patrick Queen in the past two offseasons, it’s becoming to get more difficult for the Ravens defensively to make that happen. Baltimore needs more improvement on the defensive line, an area that the team hasn’t been improving, especially after losing Michael Pierce to retirement. John Jenkins is a journeyman, and the only true defensive lineman who can keep everyone else on the same page is Nnamdi Madubuike.

While Broderick Washington and Travis Jones have opportunities to improve, they must act quickly if the Ravens have aspirations to replicate the success that the offense has been having. Jordan might be past his prime, but being a part of a roster like Baltimore, they could probably find 1-2 more years of explosiveness out of Jordan.

Old-School Jim

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Chargers’ head coach Jim Harbaugh wants to win football games in the trenches, but he hasn’t been putting much action to make that happen. Despite signing Da’Shawn Hand, he isn’t enough alone to alter this defensive line when they lost Poona Ford and Morgan Fox this offseason. Even though Teair Tart had a 2024 breakout performance, it doesn’t guarantee that it will happen next season. Khalil Mack is still at his peak, but even the greatest needs help at least in some type of way in the defensive front.

Tuli Tuipulotu isn’t quite ready for full-time duties. If anything, Jordan could be perfect to fill the hole that Ford and Fox left before leaving the Chargers in free agency. It shouldn’t cost much for Los Angeles, who still have one of the best cap spaces in the league.
