Lots of shuffling on the way for the Saints at cornerback and defensive line.

The New Orleans Saints are already missing several key pieces due to injury, but now the roster is more depleted headed into the Week 2 action against the division rival Carolina Panthers.

In addition to missing six coaches on he sideline due to health and safety protocols, the Saints will have be missing four more presumed starters this week;

Marshon Lattimore, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Erik McCoy (expected to miss a few weeks), and Tanoh Kpassagnon (who would have started in place of Marcus Davenport who is now on IR.)

Tanoh Kpassagnon, Erik McCoy, Pete Werner, Ian Book, Montravius Adams, Marshon Lattimore and CJ Gardner-Johnson are inactive

  • DL Tanoh Kpassagnon
  • C Erik McCoy
  • LB Pete Werner
  • QB Ian Book
  • DT Montravius Adams
  • CB Marshon Lattimore
  • CB C.J. Gardner-Johnson

Marshon Lattimore continues to be week-to-week after surgery on his thumb. He was questionable heading into this matchup with the Panthers. Slot cornerback C.J. Gardner-Johnson and defensive lineman Tanoh Kpassagnon were both also questionable after not practicing the majority of the week.

Pete Werner’s inactive designation compounds the absence of Kwon Alexander (injured reserve) and Chase Hansen. Zack Baun will start next to Demario Davis, but depth has taken a hit.

Expect to see Paulson Adebo and newly acquired corner Bradley Roby start on the outside with P.J. Williams inside. This saves Desmond Trufant for depth at corner. The Saints brought back Jeff Heath to help at safety in case Williams needed to move down to corner.

Rookie defensive lineman Payton Turner should get some snaps after being inactive last week.

Meanwhile, on the offensive line, it looks like Cesar Ruiz will be at center without Erik McCoy with Calvin Throckmorton getting his second appearance at right guard this season.

Starters the Saints are without vs. Panthers:

– Marshon Lattimore (hand)
– C.J. Gardner-Johnson (knee)
– Erik McCoy (calf)
– Marcus Davenport (IR)
– Kwon Alexander (IR)
– Wil Lutz (IR)
– Tre’Quan Smith (IR)
– Michael Thomas (PUP/COVID)
– David Onyemata (suspended)

An exhaustive list of missing players and coaches for the New Orleans Saints only presents unique adversity. Head coach Sean Payton and this organization are no strangers to unprecedented challenges. Can they navigate another on their way to win in Charlotte?
