Saints add a familiar last name in Pro Football Focus’s latest mock draft

I’ve heard of him!

Another day, another mock draft as the 2021 NFL offseason chugs along.

This time, the New Orleans Saints are given a familiar name is Pro Football Focus’s recent first round mock of the 2021 NFL Draft:

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS: CB JAYCEE HORN, SOUTH CAROLINA

It’s a legacy pick, as Jaycee Horn comes to the city his dad represented for many years. In a tough division for opposing cornerbacks, the Saints need help outside of Marshon Lattimore. Horn’s stock has been rising the last few weeks, and the Saints would be wise to pick him up should he fall.

Key Change: Every Saints cornerback allowed a completion rate above 50% this past season. Horn’s was a lowly 22% in 2020.

This mock draft seems to assume one of either Marshon Lattimore or Janoris Jenkins are not with the Saints in 2021, presumably Janoris. Jenkins allowed a 62% completion percentage on targets his way in 2020, when Jaycee Horn allowed only 33% of completions against him last season – lowest in the SEC.

Considering Janoris comes with a 2021 cap hit of over $14 million, there’s certainly reason to believe the Saints could release him to free up approximately $7 million in cap space (since Janoris has a $7 million dead cap hit even if released).

Last season, Jaycee played in only 7 games, but he was still able to haul in two interceptions, defend six passes, and register 16 tackles (including one tackle for loss). Assuming his two-interception season wasn’t a fluke (he failed to record an interception in any previous year at South Carolina), he should be able to come in and fill out the #2 cornerback position if needed.

Jaycee Horn is gonna look nice in the black and gold.

It’s almost prophecy at this point. pic.twitter.com/KQXcLXejoV
