We continue previewing the New Orleans Saints’ 2021 opponents with the Seattle Seahawks, who the Saints will visit in Week 7. The Monday Night contest will be the team’s first prime time slot of the season. Despite previous woes, including a particularly painful 2010 NFC Wild Card playoff loss, the most recent memory against Seattle is one fans can look upon fondly.
New Orleans got their first glimpse of the team without Drew Brees following his thumb injury in Week 2 of the 2019 season against the Los Angeles Rams. As Stephen A. Smith put it, the general consensus was: “The Saints are done without Drew Brees. Period.”
Enter undrafted rookie Deonte Harris. After the defense stifled Seattle’s opening drive, Harris darted out of the backfield and returned the punt 53 yards for a touchdown. The subsequent relief off Teddy Bridgewater in his first start awarded him composure to complete 19-of-27 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns; he even had three carries for 12 rushing yards.
The Saints never relinquished the lead, and the 33-27 win showed how formidable the team is – no matter who’s under center. They’ll look to recreate this magic following their early bye week back at Lumen Field.
