The New Orleans Saints are a potential landing spot for eight-time Pro Bowler Russell Wilson.
Seattle Seahawks starting quarterback Russell Wilson could be on the verge of being dealt to another team as a rift between the two parties has emerged. With the New Orleans Saints expected to see their future Hall of Famer in Drew Brees retire, speculation has arisen about a possible trade for Wilson. Those rumors have now hit a fever pitch as Wilson’s agent has just released a statement that Wilson is open to waiving his full no-trade clause for four teams.
One of those teams is the Saints. If New Orleans were able to acquire Wilson, they would need to do some extensive salary cap work that could include restructures, extensions and cuts just to free up space for his $19 million cap hit in 2021. But, perhaps the largest obstacle in the way is compensation to Seattle for Wilson’s services. Reports have indicated that the Seahawks would want around three first-round picks for Wilson. That would essentially see the Saints mortgaging the future for the 32-year-old.
Russell Wilson has told the Seahawks he wants to play in Seattle but, if a trade were considered, the only teams he would go to are the Cowboys, Saints, Raiders and Bears, his agent Mark Rodgers said to ESPN.

However, what if New Orleans offered two first-round picks and a package of proven players? Wilson would be a perfect fit in this current Saints offensive system, and the team would never skip a beat, even with Brees’ retirement. A Super Bowl would continue to be the goal for 2021 and with Russ behind the wheel that would continue to be the goal as long as he is with the team.
If the Saints want Wilson, and Seattle is willing to deal, do not discount the possibility of Wilson suiting up for the Black and Gold come next season.
