Robert Griffin III Names ‘Quarterback Steal Of The Draft’

June 26, 2024 by The Spun

A record six quarterbacks were taken in the first round of the NFL Draft then none were taken in the second or third rounds. But on the third day of the NFL Draft, one team got their hands on a quarterback that Robert Griffin III has dubbed a steal.

Taking to X on Saturday, Griffin published a quick video praising the New Orleans Saints for drafting Spencer Rattler No. 150 overall in the fifth round. He believes that Rattler is now in the perfect position to sit and learn behind veteran starter Derek Carr and already knows a lot from playing for Shane Beamer at South Carolina.

“The @Saints just took the QB Steal of the Draft in Spencer Rattler. Let him sit behind Derek Carr and adjust to the NFL life because he already has the concepts down from playing at @GamecockFB for @CoachSBeamer,” Griffin wrote.

Rattler was very productive for the Gamecocks and the Oklahoma Sooners before that. In his two seasons at South Carolina, Rattler threw for over 6,000 yards and 37 touchdowns while completing 67.5-percent of his passes.

Rattler was just as efficient at Oklahoma, throwing for 28 touchdowns as a redshirt freshman in 2020 and leading the team to a Big 12 title.

But his pre-draft measurables weren’t all that great and there were a lot of questions about how his production in college would translate to the NFL.

Now it falls upon the Saints to answer those questions.

Will he prove to be “the QB steal of the draft?”
