Reports: RB Latavius Murray day-to-day, status 'up in the air' vs. Bucs

#Saints RB Latavius Murray, who missed practice with a quad injury, is considered day-to-day, source said. He’s working to be available this weekend, but his status is best described as up in the air.

It would be a tough break for Latavius Murray to miss Sunday’s playoff game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but that’s a real possibility for the New Orleans Saints running back.

Murray was a non-participant in the Saints’ first practice session of the week on Wednesday, due to a quad injury. He exited their Wild-Card Round win over the Chicago Bears and didn’t return, but this is the first we’ve heard of his condition.

For now, he’s reported to be day-to-day while feeling out the severity of the issue. Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football first reported that status, which was confirmed by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who added that Murray’s availability on Sunday “is best described as up in the air.”

Murray has only missed one game since signing with the Saints as a free agent in 2019, and that was due to being a high-risk close contact to running back Alvin Kamara after he tested positive for COVID-19. In 33 games, including a pair of playoff appearances for New Orleans, he’s totaled 301 carries for 1,323 rushing yards and 9 touchdown runs, plus 60 receptions for 426 receiving yards and 3 touchdown catches, the only scoring grabs of his 7-year NFL career.

Losing him for the Divisional Round would hurt, but the Saints have overcome that sort of adversity before. They still have Kamara on top of the depth chart, and Ty Montgomery came through in a big spot with a 100-yards rushing performance in Week 17 after the rest of the running backs were forced into quarantine. Having Murray available would be nice, but it’s far from being critical factor in this game.
