Report: Ravens Could Ignite a Possible Blockbuster Trade?

August 24, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Despite signing a contract this offseason with the Baltimore Ravens, they could trade cornerback Chidobe Awuzie during or before the 2025 regular season. According to a report, the source believes the team might be willing to trade Awuzie since they were able to sign Jaire Alexander following his release from the Green Bay Packers. There’s no doubt that the Ravens have a ton of depth at the cornerback position, so they could get wise and trade one of them if there isn’t a role anymore. The source thinks that Baltimore could accept a Day 3 pick for Awuzie and send him to the Miami Dolphins, and while that could be true, the cornerback hasn’t been able to live up to expectations.

Originally selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the former Colorado product is coming off one of the worst seasons with the Tennessee Titans, so it was a bit of a head scratcher as to why they signed him in the first place. However, the reality is that they needed the depth to help veteran Marlon Humphrey and 2024 draft Nate Wiggins, but now that Alexander is in Baltimore, the team is better off dangling him on the trade block. Unfortunately, he won’t bring in a ton of value, so a release is more sensible in this situation if Awuzie continues to be inconsistent. Here are four teams that might take a chance on him if he becomes available before the 2205 campaign.

Best Fits

New Orleans Saints

While the New Orleans Saints have been able to salvage the safety unit, signing Justin Reid and Julian Blackmon, but have ignored upgrading the cornerback room. The team lost Marshon Lattimore and Paulson Adebo in one campaign, so they must get at least a veteran to hold down this unit until they can find a reliable corner in next year’s draft. Awuzie isn’t going to help light up the field, but the Saints must do better if they want to survive between having Alontae Taylor and Kool-Aid McKinstry, who will start on first-team reps for one full season for the first time in their careers.

Carolina Panthers

Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers made a strong case this offseason, signing safety Tre’Von Moehrig and defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton. Yet, they haven’t been able to mix in anything new in the cornerback unit. They re-signed Jaycee Horn and Michael Jackson on new contracts, and given that they haven’t done too many special things last season, they could sign Awuzie on a low-stakes deal to provide some depth.

Los Angeles Chargers

Last year, the Los Angeles Chargers had one of the best pass secondaries, and it will look a bit different this season. Donte Jackson and Benjamin St-Juste signed on low-stakes contracts, so maybe Awuzie could take the same route. After reviving Kristian Fulton’s NFL career, they might be able to do the same with Awuzie if they run with the same plan they had in their secondary room.

Dallas Cowboys

Why not? The Dallas Cowboys have nothing to lose in this situation, given that Trevon Diggs is injury-prone and DaRon Bland is entering his contract year. 2025 draft pick Shavon Revel Jr. has a strong injury history as well, so it’s anyone’s starting job up for grabs. Awuzie might not be the same he once was in 2017, but he could end his career here in Dallas.
