Report: Broncos Running Back May Be On Trade Block – Top 5 Fits

June 20, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

It’s already a competitive offseason for the Denver Broncos as they could put running back Jaleel McLaughlin on the trade block. According to NFLTradeRumors, the source believes there’s a chance the team would be willing to trade McLaughlin to a new roster since they have too many running backs on the roster. McLaughlin isn’t the only running back on the trade block, but Audric Estime could be a name to watch as a potential candidate before the 2025 regular season starts. However, McLaughlin has been the most consistent out of all the pieces in the room among Estime and former Bronco, Javonte Williams, but most of that production will likely go towards RJ Harvey, a second-rounder of this year’s draft.

McLaughlin has the highest chance to become at least a No. 2 running back with the Broncos, but since he adds a ton of value, the Broncos may trade him to get some draft capital in return. Originally selected as an undrafted rookie in 2023, the former Youngstown State product has a real success story, making the 53-man roster that campaign and recording 76 carries for 410 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. These aren’t the best numbers, but they show some potential that he might have. However, this might not be enough for the Broncos to keep him, so these five teams could pursue McLaughlin.

Potential Destinations

New Orleans Saints

Despite signing Cam Akers, the New Orleans Saints need some fresh talent in their running back room to salvage the backfield. Alvin Kamara is one of the league’s best runners, but even the best need support to be greater. Kendre Miller failed to live up to those expectations these past two seasons, so someone like McLaughlin could be a worthy investment for the Saints, who will likely rely on the run game.

Carolina Panthers

Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers don’t necessarily need a running back, but it would be nice to bolster the backfield behind Chuba Hubbard and Rico Dowdle. Even though there is hope for Jonathon Brooks to return in 2026 eventually, it might be too late. Anything can happen, and they should probably get a running back who’s a healthy scratch.

Washington Commanders

However, the Commanders might have a ferocious offense, but the running back room has been lackluster. Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler aren’t, unfortunately, the long-term starters for this unit, so while they will probably wait until the 2026 draft, they should target a new running back during the season. McLaughlin isn’t going to support quarterback Jayden Daniels immediately, but he might be what Washington needs to start anew.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens should probably start building a high-caliber running back room while Derrick Henry is healthy. Despite his contract extension, there’s no guarantee he will play at his peak for all of those years. He’s aging, and even though Keaton Mitchell has a bright future, it’s yet to be proven. The Ravens won’t get McLaughlin in a trade, but if he becomes a free agent, he could sign with the team that always brings out the talent in several offensive playmakers.

Los Angeles Chargers

Nobody loves running the football more than head coach Jim Harbaugh. This is why the Chargers are continuing to change around their running back room after signing Najee Harris and drafting Omarion Hampton this offseason. Just like the Ravens, they won’t get McLaughlin in a trade, but if he’s available, he could earn his strides being behind a capable offensive line.
