The NFL salary cap is expected to plummet due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, falling to as low as $175 million because of lost revenue in the 2020 fiscal year. That’s going to hit teams like the New Orleans Saints especially hard; their strategy for the last decade has been to maximize their resources and spend every dollar to remain competitive in Drew Brees’ Super Bowl window.
But Brees may not be around next year. And the Saints have already gotten a head start on their stacked 2021 free agent class by agreeing to a lucrative contract extension with all-star running back Alvin Kamara.
