New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed is battling a hip injury as the team prepares to face the Los Angeles Rams. However, this ailment shouldn’t keep him from playing in Week 9. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the deep threat is “expected to play” in Sunday’s contest with rookie Tyler Shough making the first start of his career.

Rashid Shaheed Injury Update: Saints WR Expected to Play Despite Hip Injury
Rashid Shaheed has been one of the team’s more consistent weapons in what has otherwise been a pretty unremarkable passing attack. Serving as the team’s deep threat, the veteran has recorded a solid 39 receptions for 431 yards and two touchdowns in eight games. He’s on pace to shatter his career-best single-season numbers as he enters the final year of his rookie contract.
Despite his injury, Rashid Shaheed should be a featured part of the passing attack as the Saints officially hand things over to Tyler Shough. A second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Louisville product spent the offseason battling incumbent Spencer Rattler for the starting quarterback job. While Rattler ultimately won the offseason battle, head coach Kellen Moore inserted Shough into last week’s loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Shortly after the game ended, the first-year head coach announced that Shough will be the starter for the remainder of the season.
Assuming his injury isn’t anything serious, this could be the last game Rashid Shaheed plays in a Saints uniform. The trade deadline is just days away, and the 1-7 Saints are expected to listen to offers on some of their players. While Alvin Kamara is off the table, Shaheed is expected to draw considerable interest and could be dealt for the right price.
