The Saints fear that Jameis Winston has injured both his ACL and MCL.

According to Jane Slater of the NFL Network, the New Orleans Saints fear that Jameis Winston’s knee injury is significant. Slater is quoted as saying, “I’m told it’s his ACL.” This is never a good sign for any player. It is likely that the Saints send Winston for more tests but the team medical staff have seen and can diagnose these injuries pretty well, unfortunately.

Jameis Winston injured in win over Tampa Bay

The injury for Jameis Winston occurred early in the second quarter of this week’s game. Winston took a hit by Devin White and was twisted down awkwardly. The hit by White was flagged on the play. The tackle was called a horse collar type tackle, which is illegal for this exact reason. After Jane Slater’s initial report, Ian Rapoport reported that Winston had also suffered “potential damage to the MCL.”

Jameis Winston tried to get up and get off the field but was unable. He was helped to the sidelines and carted to the locker room soon after. Winston was ruled out early in the second half of this game. Before the injury, Winston had accounted for 94 total yards of offense for the Saints, including 40 on the ground. Winston was on course for a career game against his former team before suffering the injury.

P.J. Williams sealed the game for the Saints

The Saints rallied around backup quarterback Trevor Siemian to win the game against the Buccaneers. The defense stepped up and intercepted Tom Brady late in the game to seal the win. This will be the definition of a bittersweet finish to a game. Siemian might be the quarterback going forward for the Saints with Taysom Hill also being out recently with injury. Hill suffered a concussion three weeks ago and has yet to see the field. If the injury to Winston is significant, then it is likely that this backfield belongs to Hill going forward.
