Profane Tweet Could Lead to Chiefs, Saints Trade

September 2, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The New Orleans Saints released longtime special teams standout JT Gray, and star running back Alvin Kamara posted a tweet showing just how unhappy he is with that move. Gray, a one-time All-Pro and two-time Second-Team All-Pro, is one of the best special teamers in the game. However, he’s also entering his age-29 season, and head coach Kellen Moore didn’t believe keeping him around was in the best interest of the team. Shortly after news of the release broke, Kamara tweeted “Wtf.”

The Gray release is the latest sign that New Orleans is embracing a long-overdue rebuild, and you can see why the 30-year-old Kamara might not want to waste his final seasons on a losing roster. The tweet shows that Alvin Kamara is clearly not happy with the direction of the organization, and the Saints could do him a favor by trading him to a legitimate contender like the Kansas City Chiefs.

Chiefs, Saints Could Agree to Alvin Kamara Trade After Latest Tweet

The Kansas City Chiefs have a good roster, but they could use some help at the running back position. Isiah Pacheco is an adequate downhill runner, but he doesn’t bring too much to the passing game. The rest of the depth chart, meanwhile, is full of past their prime veterans like Kareem Hunt and Elijah Mitchell or untested rookies like fourth-round pick Brashard Smith.

Alvin Kamara is no longer the Pro Bowl player he was in the 2010s, but he’s still a solid starter who would probably do better in a committee at this stage in his career. A gifted dual-threat, he can still move the pile as a runner but is best when running routes and making plays in the passing game.

Dangerous pass-catching backs used to be a staple of the Andy Reid offense, but the Chiefs head coach hasn’t had a true three-down back since 2018. Kamara might be a bit past his prime, but he’d still be the best running back the Chiefs had since the early-career version of Kareem Hunt.

Running backs don’t move the needle on their own, but the Chiefs could use all the help they can get if they hope to once again emerge victorious in the AFC. Alvin Kamara would probably welcome a trade following his tweet, but would the Saints agree to a deal?

Trade Terms

The Saints have every reason to trade Alvin Kamara for whatever they can get. New Orleans rightfully pushed all their chips to the middle in the late 2010s as they tried to win another championship during the final years of the Drew Brees Era. While those efforts came up short, the team refused to rebuild and continued treading water while starting unremarkable veterans like Jameis Winston, Andy Dalton, and Derek Carr.

Now, the bill has finally come due, as Kellen Moore and company are embracing a youth movement. While this means the 2025 version of the team will probably be terrible, it gives them the chance to reset their roster and build a new foundation for the team. Unfortunately, Alvin Kamara will probably be too old to contribute by the team this roster is ready to compete again. It’s in everyone’s best interest to send Kamara to the Chiefs in exchange for a late-round pick.
