Back in January, the Saints agreed to a restructured contract with Michael Thomas. They added a $31.755 million roster bonus to his deal that would become fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2023 league year.
Many people thought this stipulation in Thomas’ contract signaled the end of his run with the Saints.
Well, we shouldn’t have slammed the door shut on them working things out.
According to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, the Saints have made progress in their conversations with Thomas regarding a potential contract extension.
“There has been progress recently in conversations between the Saints and Mike Thomas on a contract extension, according to sources,” Underhill said. “Not done yet, but talks are productive.”
It appears Saints fans want Thomas to remain in New Orleans for the 2023 season.
“Yes Gawd,” one fan said.
“I think we ain’t done yet,” another fan wrote.
“Whew, he saw Carr sign and said I got one more in me,” a third fan commented.
If Thomas returns to the Saints for another season, he’ll get to work with Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr. He signed a four-year deal with New Orleans earlier this week.
The Saints will have to make a final decision on Thomas very soon.
