NFL World Reacts To Latest New Orleans Saints Trade

Houston Texans players, including Bradley Roby look on against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

With the NFL season about to begin, the New Orleans Saints have made a much-needed move to bolster their secondary. On Wednesday, the front office acquired veteran cornerback Bradley Roby from the Houston Texans.

Roby, 29, was selected by the Denver Broncos in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He spent five seasons in the Mile High City before signing a deal with the Texans.

After playing well on a one-year, prove-it deal in 2019, the Ohio State product signed a three-year, $36 million contract with the Texans in 2020. Last season, he had 37 total tackles, seven passes defended and an interception.

Considering the Saints’ secondary was looking very thin prior to this Wednesday, acquiring Roby is a huge deal for Sean Payton’s squad.

Roby also owns a 76.6 career overall grade (2014-present).

Roby will not be able to play in the Saints’ season opener since he’s still suspended for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. He can suit up for the team’s Week 2 showdown with the Carolina Panthers, though.

It’s too early to tell what Roby’s role will look like in New Orleans, but he should give the secondary a boost. After all, the Saints’ depth chart at cornerback doesn’t have much to offer outside of Marshon Lattimore.

Even though Roby hasn’t even been on the Saints for a full day, the fan base in New Orleans is already envisioning him intercepting a pass from Tom Brady.

Cornerback was the biggest concern for the Saints entering this regular season. With Roby on the roster, that need for help in the secondary isn’t nearly as serious as it once was.

Time will tell if Lattimore and Roby can form a dynamic duo at cornerback for New Orleans.
