Derek Carr may have told the Las Vegas Raiders that he wouldn’t agree to a trade to the Saints or any other team, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t eventually land himself in New Orleans.
Appearing on the “Pat McAfee Show” Monday, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport shared that there still appears to be mutual interest between Carr and the Saints.
“I know the Saints are still interested, I know he’s still interested in them,” Rapoport said. “Now when he’s a free agent he could potentially negotiate his own new contract with the Saints. … We’ll see what the market is.”
The NFL world reacted to the Saints-Carr talk on social media.
“Carr is still coming here,” a fan smiled.
“Oh joy……..” another replied.
“The Raiders allowed them to meet and plan a way for Carr to still get paid, AND join the Saints,” tweeted Jeremy Branham.
“In all reality, if Carr wants to go to the Saints, he’s better off getting released and signing there,” another said. “Allowing the Saints to keep whatever draft picks they would have lost in a trade.”
Carr figures to be a target for at least a few teams out there this offseason. Whether or not he land in NOLA… time will tell.
