NFL Announces Official Decision On Saints-Packers Game

With the city of New Orleans dealing with the fallout of Hurricane Ida, the Superdome won’t be available for the New Orlean Saints to play their home opener against the Green Bay Packers. After some speculation, a new venue has been determined.

On Wednesday, the NFL announced that the Saints-Packers game will be contested at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville. The home venue for the Jacksonville Jaguars is one of the few venues in the southeast that was free for that weekend.

“Due to the ongoing recovery efforts in New Orleans and the surrounding communities in the wake of Hurricane Ida, the New Orleans Saints Week 1 home game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, September 12 will be played at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida,” the NFL said in a statement.

Per the announcement, the game will be played at 4:25 p.m. EST and will air on FOX.

In previous years, NFL games that couldn’t be played at their home venues would be played at college stadiums. There was some speculation that the Saints-Packers game might be moved to LSU’s Tiger Stadium or Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium instead.

But new NFL rules limit teams to playing games at the 32 NFL stadiums. The special wiring in the stadium is the reason for the restrictions.

It’s an unfortunate situation for the Saints, who have to yield a vital home game for reasons beyond their control.

We can only hope that the city of New Orleans can recover in time for the Saints’ Week 4 home game on October 3.
