P.J. Williams is officially returning to the New Orleans Saints. Moments ago, ESPN insider Adam Schefter announced that the two sides agreed to a one-year deal.
Williams, 28, is a former third-round pick out of Florida State. He’ll enter his eighth season with the Saints this year.
Although he’s always been considered a role player for the Saints, Williams took his game to new heights this past season.
In 16 games, Williams had 42 total tackles, five pass breakups, three interceptions, two sacks and a forced fumble. He was a true difference-maker for Dennis Allen’s defense.
Saints’ safety P.J. Williams is returning to New Orleans on a one-year deal, per source. This now will be Williams’ eighth season with the Saints.

This is an important signing for the Saints in large part because they already lost two safeties this offseason.
A few weeks ago, Marcus Williams signed a five-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens. Then, the Saints found out that Malcolm Jenkins was retiring from the NFL.
With those two safeties out of the picture, Williams’ role could increase. It’s possible he slides into the free safety spot on a full-time basis.
As of now, it seems like we could see a combination of Marcus Maye and P.J. Williams at safety for New Orleans this fall.
