How do the Saints offensive players rate in Madden 22?

One of the biggest yearly releases in the video game world is from the Madden franchise. Not only is the game release a big deal but so are the ratings reveal for individual players. The Madden series ranks players based on a scale from one to 99. The top players at each position take pride each year in how they are rated, often times leading to heated discussion amongst fans of the series and NFL. Players being in the top 20 of their position usually earns them a rating of 80 or better. The top 10 usually comes in around 90 or more. How did the New Orleans Saints fare this year? This article will examine how the Saints offensive players rated in Madden 22.

New Orleans Saints offense in Madden 22

The Saints go into the 2021 NFL season with a lot of change. The retirement of Drew Brees puts the Saints into unknown territory in the Sean Payton era. This leaves the current Madden ratings looking somewhat different than most years. The Saints also lost Emmanuel Sanders who helped anchor the wide receivers behind Michael Thomas. Though, Alvin Kamara returns to his normal rating at the top of the running backs. The offensive line again anchors the team both on the field and in this years ratings but maybe not enough. The Saints total offense comes in ranked 14th of all teams in the NFL at an 80. Let’s examine the top players on this side of the ball.

Offensive linemen carry the weight

The Saints continually have one of the best offensive lines in football. Of the Saints 13 players with a rating over 80, three of them are on the offensive line. The Madden ratings keep up the Saints tradition by placing the two starting tackles within the top 15 of all offensive linemen. Right tackle Ryan Ramczyk actually ranks at the best right tackle in all of Madden with an 89 rating. Meanwhile, left tackle Terron Armstead is rated as the second best left tackle in the league coming in at a whopping 95. There are only two offensive linemen who rank better than Armstead in the entire ratings. The other Saints linemen has a rating over 80 is center Erik McCoy at 83. This is good for the 10th best center in the NFL. Almost every year under Sean Payton, the Saints have been anchored by their big men up front and that shows in this years ratings.

Saints land two skill players in top 10

There are not a lot of other Saints offensive players who are rated over 80. The lowest of these is running back Latavius Murray at exactly 80. This puts Murray as the 31st best running back, a great rating for a running back who splits carries with one of the top 10 guys. It comes at no surprise that the other half of the Saints running back duo comes in highly rated. Superstar Alvin Kamara comes in as the fifth best running back in Madden at a 94. Running backs ahead of him are not too far off, with Christian McCaffrey being the highest on the list at a 97.

Michael Thomas, coming off an injury riddled season, still has enough talent to keep his rating high. Thomas is the sixth best receiver, rating at a 94. This is only a year after Thomas achieved the best rating possible at 99. Thomas played very little in 2020 due to an ankle injury but it did not cost him too much in the Madden ratings. He is behind only a couple of receivers who are highly regarded like Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill and Julio Jones. With Thomas and the running backs, the Saints skill players are certainly top-heavy. The Saints will have to add to this in order to improve their 14th rated overall offense though.

Quarterbacks leave room for improvement

Gone are the days of Drew Brees being at the top of the NFL quarterback class. This year, the Saints will be seeking improvement from either Taysom Hill or Jameis Winston. Hill is the lowest ranked of the two at a 67, good for the 46th best quarterback overall. This seems a little disrespectful for a quarterback who won three of his four starts last year and completed 72% of his passes. Jameis Winston, meanwhile, is rated as the 27th best quarterback overall with a 73. This puts him among a lot of quarterbacks who also have to prove their worth. Some of these are veterans and others are rookies, but everyone around Winston are in similar situations. Players like Trey Lance, Carson Wentz and Daniel Jones all have similar ratings as Winston. Whoever wins the starting job for the Saints will likely have to improve during the year to bolster the Saints Madden ratings on offense.

Madden Ratings Review

The Madden ratings for the defensive side of the ball will follow soon. The defense overall has a better rating than the offense. Although the Saints did score multiple players in the top 10 of their positions, there just is not enough high scores on offense to bolster the overall team rating. Once the dust settles from training camp and a starting quarterback is known, these ratings will likely fluctuate, hopefully for the better.
