Kellen Moore on possibly hiring his brother, Missouri OC, to Saints’ staff

February 17, 2025 by Saints Wire

Credit to Kellen Moore for not tipping his hand on any of his plans for the New Orleans Saints in his introductory press conference, including his potential coaching staff. One name often speculated about joining Moore has been his own brother — Kirby Moore, the Missouri Tigers offensive coordinator. Both brothers were former teammates on the Boise State Broncos way back when.

“I’d love to work with him one day,” Moore said when his brother was brought up last week. “Obviously, he’s in a tremendous spot, a tremendous role. They’ve had a ton of success at Missouri in the last couple years, so he’ll have great opportunities moving forward.”

Kirby Moore is one of the highest-paid offensive coordinators in the SEC, and he calls plays at Mizzou, so getting him to the NFL as an assistant coach wouldn’t be easy. He’d be giving up money and a prominent role at a high-profile college program to come be the Saints quarterbacks coach or fill another position as an assistant.

And you have to imagine that Missouri would like to keep him. Moore has helped develop a couple of first-round draft prospects in wide receiver Luther Burden III and right tackle Armand Membou and they’d like to keep that talent pipeline running. So don’t be shocked if he doesn’t turn pro just because his brother is an NFL head coach now.

That cuts to another point here. Moore shouldn’t look to hire his brother just because they’re brothers — if Kirby Moore is an option for his staff, it should be because he’s the best candidate for the job as someone who can get the most out of his players and add something to the team. That might be the case. It could be true for other candidates, too. So while we’ll keep an eye out for movement on this front, a Moore family reunion in New Orleans may not be likely.
