In an offseason that has already seen several quarterbacks change places, the New Orleans Saints are going back to Jameis Winston.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said the two sides are close to completing a two-year deal. Shortly after, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported a $28 million base value with $21 million guaranteed.
Jameis Winston and the Saints are closing in on a two-year deal for the quarterback to remain in New Orleans, per source. Still details to be worked through but trending in the right direction. Winston and the Saints set to build off last year’s 5-2 start together.

The #Saints are re-signing QB Jameis Winston to a two-year deal with a base value of $28 million, including $21M guaranteed, sources tell me and @RapSheet.
So after missing out on Deshaun Watson, New Orleans turns to an old friend at QB.

After sitting behind Drew Brees for his first season in New Orleans, Winston opened the 2021 campaign as the Saints’ starter. Although he compiled just 1,170 passing yards in seven games, he posted a 102.8 quarterback rating for a 5-2 squad before tearing his ACL.
With no more star quarterbacks on the market, this reunion made sense for both sides.

This makes sense for everyone involved https://t.co/5sISbuNwvn

Logical outcome. https://t.co/PMBLKd7iiJ

Could be worse https://t.co/VhU11CPuEG

Despite coming off a major injury, Winston still secured a significant chunk of guaranteed money. That could hint to at least one other team expressing serious interest in the 28-year-old.
This is a really good deal for Winston. #Saints must have just given up on the QB upgrade possibilities. Winston may have had some leverage if they thought the Panthers were in the mix https://t.co/duEK2rUikg

The next stop is adding another pass-catching option alongside Michael Thomas, who missed all of last season due to a nagging ankle injury.
Give Jameis another receiver and this offense will be tough to slow down https://t.co/pqg2CrqIqu

Good. Now give him weapons. #RunItBack #NFLpl https://t.co/vSq5Wpc6Gz

With this move, and Matt Ryan getting traded to the Indianapolis Colts earlier on Monday, the offseason’s quarterback carousel is almost done spinning. Two notable options on the market, but they’re running out of potential landing spots.
Ryan to Colts, Winston to Saints. There are not many chairs left and the music is tapering off … https://t.co/WzzJsU4CK2

So it’s down to Carolina and Seattle with Garoppolo and Baker Mayfield both available https://t.co/LqIi1stwup

Although he hardly vaults the Saints to Super Bowl contention, retaining Winston seemed like the most likely outcome all along.
