Waiver claims you should consider after week one of the NFL regular season

The first Sunday of the NFL fantasy football season has completed. Like most weeks, the fantasy world is ready to claim emerging players. Canal Street Chronicles is here to help with upcoming waiver claims. Let’s look at the fantasy football waiver wire claims after week one of the 2021 NFL season.

Fantasy Football waiver wire claims

Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints, Tight End

Rostered percentages: Yahoo(10%), ESPN(1%)

Juwan Johnson was a hot name in the New Orleans Saints circles. After week one, he is now going to be one of the hottest names in fantasy circles. Jameis Winston and Johnson’s chemistry was on display against the Green Bay Packers in week one. Johnson caught two of Winston’s five touchdowns. Tight end is a thin position for fantasy football so expect many teams to prioritize Johnson this week. In a full PPR league, Johnson put up 17.2 points. Maybe more importantly, Johnson caught three of Winston’s 14 passes. This volume is likely to vary with the Sean Payton game plan, but Johnson is looking to be a big part of the Saints offense in 2021.

Jared Goff, Detroit Lions, Quarterback

Rostered percentages: Yahoo(7%), ESPN(6%)

Jared Goff had a great debut for the Detroit Lions. This is not a sentence anyone expected to see after the Lions opened up against the 49ers in week one. Goff proved many doubters wrong and looked good at times against what is considered a good defense. This Lions offense was behind a lot and threw the ball 57 times. Goff spread the ball around to multiple players and showed better than many thought he would. This Lions team might not be doormats this season. If Goff can throw for 300 yards and multiple touchdowns per week, he will return value to quarterback streamers and superflex leagues.

Christian Kirk, Arizona Cardinals, Wide Receiver

Rostered percentages: Yahoo(13%), ESPN(4%)

Christian Kirk was the second most affective pass catcher for Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Although Kirk had the third-most targets, he was five-for-five for 70 yards and two touchdowns. Kirk seemed to be a much more explosive receiver than A.J. Green, who many thought would be the number two receiver for the Cardinals. The Cardinals high-powered offense will be fantasy relevant all year and all teams should try to obtain a piece of the team. Kirk might be one of the last chances to get a player on a potent offense this season.

Eli Mitchell, San Francisco 49ers, Running Back

Rostered percentages: Yahoo(7%), ESPN(1%)

Stop me if you have heard this one. Raheem Mostert, the starting running back going into the new year, is now injured for the San Francisco 49ers. Mostert is set to miss at least the next eight games. This will likely lead to Mitchell being the most sought after waiver add in week one. Mitchell took advantage of his opportunities in week one, running for over 100 yards and a touchdown. Mitchell will likely be splitting carries with JaMycal Hasty and Trey Sermon at some point. Jeff Wilson will also be returning around week six from the PUP list. Mitchell will be highly added but understand what kind of backfield he is now leading.
