Everyone’s Making The Same Suggestion For Latavius Murray After Release

September 8, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Jared Cook and Latavius Murray on the field for the New Orleans Saints.

The New Orleans Saints are reportedly releasing backup running back Latavius Murray after he refused a proposed pay reduction on Monday, per ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Murray is coming off his best season in recent years, logging 656 yards and four touchdowns on 146 carries and 176 yards and one touchdown on 23 receptions. Now hitting the market as a free agent, plenty of teams will like show interest in the former Pro-Bowl RB.

One team in particular is already sticking out as the perceived frontrunner to land Murray.

Fans and analysts from around the league are dubbing the Baltimore Ravens as the running back’s future squad.

Latavius Murray to the Ravens just seems like a perfect match to me.

After losing J.K. Dobbins and Justice Hill to season-ending injuries, perhaps the Ravens will consider Latavius Murray. The Saints released Murray today, per the NFL’s transaction wire.

Tony Jones Jr. appears to be the new backup for the Saints.

Latavius Murray should land on his feet. Maybe the Ravens will kick the tires on him. https://t.co/dqeiTZlo6k

Murray to the Ravens is the most obvious signing ever https://t.co/GBL8Lgif2x

The Ravens had less than $1 million in cap space, per @RavensSalaryCap, before Mark Andrews’ contract extension gave them some relief.

Hard to see Murray ($2.95 million base salary) being in their budget, at least early in the season. https://t.co/RDHK5k0ne9

With season-ending injuries to both J.K. Dobbins and Justice Hill, the Ravens, who led the NFL in rushing over the past two seasons, are currently running scarce at the running back position. As of right now, fourth-year Baltimore running back Gus Edwards will lead the way followed by second-year pro Ty’Son Williams.

Without Murray on the squad, the Saints will now turn to undrafted second-year running back Tony Jones Jr. as a backup behind Alvin Kamara. The former Notre Dame standout spent most of the 2020 season on the New Orleans practice roster.

Murray, 31, is heading into his eighth NFL season.
