Don’t let his jaw-dropping statistics fool you, Drew Brees isn’t getting any younger. The future Hall of Famer knows he’s running out of time to win a second Super Bowl, which is why this year might be the last chance he gets to lift the Lombardi Trophy.
Brees has been knocking on the doorstep of another title for the past three years. It’d be an understatement to say the postseason hasn’t been kind to New Orleans. The fact that Brees is still playing after dealing with the “Minnesota Miracle” and infamous no-call is a testament to his mental toughness.
Prior to signing another contract with the Saints, the 41-year-old quarterback was seriously thinking about retiring from the NFL. After talking it over with his family, Brees decided to come back for another year.
We can’t determine if the Saints are legit contenders once again until they take the field this fall. What we do know though is that Brees has the right mindset heading into his 20th season.
“At this time, I’m on borrowed time,” Brees told Katherine Terrell of The Athletic. “I’ve got nothing to lose. I’m turning it loose.”
Drew Brees with a pretty good ending quote today — “At this time, I’m on borrowed time. I’ve got nothing to lose. I’m turning it loose.”

The Saints have the right pieces in place to win a title this season. Alvin Kamara is an elite tailback that could be utilized in a multitude of ways, Michael Thomas continues to make history on a yearly basis, and the addition of Emmanuel Sanders should take the offense to the next level.
It’s possible New Orleans sends Brees off into the sunset with a second ring. That would be the cherry on top for what has been a remarkable career.
Brees’ first game of the 2020 season will be against another quarterback nearing the end of his career, Tom Brady.
