Who might start the season on the practice squad?
Jake Haener
The New Orleans Saints will have a very intriguing quarterback competition in training camp. Rookie Tyler Shough and second year player Spencer Rattler are expected to be the likely candidates with Jake Haener as the long shot. Haener missed much of OTAs with an injury while Shough and Rattler were full participants. He should be healthy enough for training camp, but if the Saints do not want to keep three quarterbacks on the active roster Haener will likely be the odd man out.

Cedrick Wilson Jr.
Cedrick Wilson Jr. has the fourth highest cap hit among WRs on the Saints roster behind Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, and Brandin Cooks, and is also the second oldest receiver on the roster behind Cooks. Last year, he only managed 20 receptions despite the depletion of the Saints receiving corps. With many younger and more affordable receivers on the roster like Bub Means and Mason Tipton, the Saints may move on from Wilson, Jr. in favor of a younger and more affordable option.
Nathan Shepherd
The Saints traded for DT Davon Godchaux and drafted DT Vernon Broughton in the third round of this year’s NFL Draft, and also still have Khalen Saunders and Bryan Bresee on the roster. With Shepherd set to have a cap hit of $3.6 million this year and over $6 million next year, the Saints may elect to move on in favor of the multitude of other options they have at the position.
