New Orleans focused on both immediate needs and long-term development.
The New Orleans Saints continued to shape their roster on the second day of the 2025 NFL Draft, adding some solid talent on both sides of the ball. With three selections on day two, the Saints addressed key areas of need, bringing in a quarterback, a defensive lineman, and a safety. Let’s dive into it.
Their first pick of the day, coming in the second round at No. 40 overall, was Tyler Shough, a quarterback out of Louisville. Shough brings a solid arm and athleticism to the Saints’ quarterback room, adding competition and potential for the future. Now, this pick had some fans split on if this was the right choice and the internet was buzzing. Some see the potential in Shough, while others were hoping for a Sanders selection. With Carr’s time in New Orleans possibly up, the Saints could potentially put Rattler and Shough up to compete for a position spot.
In the third round, the Saints made two selections. With the 71st overall pick, they added defensive line depth by selecting Vernon Broughton from Texas. Broughton is known for his disruptive presence and ability to pressure the quarterback, which will be a welcome addition to the Saints’ defensive front. Again, looking forward, the Saints are looking to start beefing up the defense for the future.
Later in the third round, with the 93rd overall pick, New Orleans focused on their secondary, drafting Jonas Sanker, a safety from Virginia. Sanker is a versatile defensive back with a reputation for his coverage skills and physicality, providing another valuable piece to the Saints’ defensive backfield. Possibly to be next up to follow Mathieu.
Day 2 of the draft saw the Saints strategically add talent to their roster, focusing on both immediate needs and long-term development. These three new additions will join the team as they prepare for the upcoming 2025 NFL season.
