Chiefs Possibly Eyeing All-Pro; Ravens, Saints Could Intervene

May 29, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Good offensive linemen are difficult to find in today’s NFL, and veteran Brandon Scherff is one of the best options on the open market. A first-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Iowa product used to be one of the game’s elite guards, making five Pro Bowls and earning First-Team All-Pro honors in 2019.

While he isn’t the same unstoppable force he was earlier in his career, he’s still a starting-caliber player. According to Pro Football Focus, Scherff’s  66.7 overall grade ranked 36th out of 77 eligible players, and his 74.5 pass blocking grade was the 12th-best in the league. In short, the 33-year-old is still a good player and could help a team fortify their offensive line, and Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton believes the Kansas City Chiefs should target the veteran.

Chiefs Urged to Sign Brandon Scherff – Ravens, Saints Possible Suitors

It’s easy to see why Moton believes Brandon Scherff would be a perfect fit for the Kansas City Chiefs. After boasting the game’s best interior offensive line over the past few seasons, the organization will try to make do without superstar guard Joe Thuney. With the four-time Super Bowl champion now protecting former first-overall pick Caleb Williams, someone must step up and keep Patrick Mahomes upright in 2025.

Right now, the most likely starter is 2024 second-round pick Kingsley Suamataia. Selected to play tackle, the BYU product had a disastrous rookie season, looking like a liability when on the field and finishing the season with a 37.9 PFF grade. Perhaps moving to guard can bring out the best in Suamatia, but he’s far from a guarantee at the position.

The Chiefs will always be in the thick of the Super Bowl race as long as Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid are in town, but last year’s blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles proves this team needs more talent to hoist another Lombardi. Brandon Scherff would be a great addition, but the Chiefs probably won’t be the only team interested in his services.

Ravens, Saints Could Interfere

The Baltimore Ravens have one of the league’s better tackle duos in Ronnie Stanley and Roger Rosengarten, as well as an elite center in Tyler Linderbaum. What they lack, however, is reliable guards, as the team doesn’t have a clear answer at either position. After narrowly missing the Super Bowl in each of the past two seasons, Baltimore could use a player like Brandon Scherff who could give them a slight edge in the playoffs.

New Orleans, meanwhile, is far more likely to finish with the first-overall pick than earn a spot in the playoffs. However, that shouldn’t stop them from pursuing Brandon Scherff. Whether it’s Spencer Rattler or rookie Tyler Shough, the Saints will start an inexperienced quarterback in 2025, and that player will need strong blocking to develop into a franchise quarterback. Perhaps former first-round pick Trevor Penning can successfully make the switch to guard, but Scherff offers more stability at the position.
