The Cincinnati Bengals are coming off a grueling loss against the Minnesota Vikings, where Jake Browning had his worst start, so they may hunt for Chargers backup Trey Lance in a trade. Ever since the Bengals lost star quarterback Joe Burrow, the Bengals haven’t been able to figure it out on offense. To no one’s surprise, Browning isn’t an adequate signal-caller, so they must find someone new to save their season. After their 48-10 loss, the margin could’ve been better as the Bengals allowed the Vikings’ secondary to run all over them.
Meanwhile, Lance is coming off his best performance during the preseason last month with the Chargers and could take advantage of this moment to prove that he could still be a full-time quarterback in the league. Originally selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the former North Dakota State product began his career with the San Francisco 49ers before being traded to the Dallas Cowboys in 2023. Lance didn’t get any type of full-time opportunity in Dallas, but the Chargers created something out of him, and now they’re able to trade him at the right price since he has value. Since there isn’t any possibility of the team benching Justin Herbert, as he’s on one of his best starts in his career, Lance should be able to get interest from these three other teams this year.

Chargers, Bengals May Exchange in Possible Massive Trey Lance Trade – 3 Other Possible Fits
Potential Destinations
Carolina Panthers
While the Carolina Panthers are coming off a shutout win over the Atlanta Falcons, this doesn’t mean that quarterback Bryce Young is necessarily safe. However, Young is in the best spot to remain the starter for the time being if they can continue to win games as the season progresses. Despite that, they should be in the market for a true backup over Andy Dalton. Dalton signed a new extension this past offseason, but it’s hard to imagine he’s anything but adequate.
Lance is arguably the better signal-caller in this situation. The Panthers should know when to bench Young if things turn left, and this is where Lance could come into the equation and bring some viable help to bring out the best in their new set of receivers.
New Orleans Saints
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints got blown out by the Seattle Seahawks in a grueling fashion. Between Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough, they’re in dire need of quarterback help. The Saints are rebuilding a new roster led by head coach Kellen Moore, but maybe they’d be better off trading for a backup quarterback who’s ready to start. Lance played on the same team as Moore and could be ready to ring the phone and reunite.
Miami Dolphins
The same can be said about the Miami Dolphins. Tua Tagovailoa and the energy of this offense are no longer there. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Dolphins wind up releasing or trading plenty of their talent on the roster. If that happens, they should be able to get Lance on a low-stakes deal through a trade to take over as an adequate signal-caller.
