After spending the majority of his career with the New Orleans Saints, four-time All-Pro Demario Davis could be set to leave for a new team before he retires. According to sources, Davis isn’t shutting the door on the possibility of reuniting with the Saints this 2026 regular season, but he’s a free agent, and the Saints haven’t offered him a new contract. At age 37, it makes sense why the team could be stalling to negotiate a new deal for Davis to end his career in New Orleans. It would be a high-risk, low-stakes reward for the team that is obviously rebuilding behind the new presumptive starting quarterback, Tyler Shough, after beating out Spencer Rattler for the job.

Long-time Saints All-Pro Demario Davis Could Leave to Join These Contenders
Saints GM Mickey Loomis shares the same feelings for Davis. Although the two sides are open to reuniting, it will simply come down to “business,” which means they’re not 100% committed. Originally selected in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft, the former Arkansas State product is one of the oldest players in the league. Other than Cardinals Calais Campbell, there is not much left for Davis in the tank, but he’s yet to win a Super Bowl in his career.
Despite being one of the most efficient defensively, recording 45 sacks, four interceptions, nine fumble recoveries and 1,536 total tackles, the Saints have not won a Super Bowl during his time. If there’s an opening and interest from other teams with a decent contract, many should expect Davis to test the market to explore his options. These three teams may offer him a deal he can’t turn away.
Potential Next Teams
Los Angeles Chargers
Despite losing Jesse Minter, the Los Angeles Chargers can’t afford to diminish their defense. Khalil Mack hasn’t committed to playing another season in the NFL, but he might join another team similar to the situation with Davis. However, even if the Chargers get Mack again on a one-year contract, the Chargers should consider the Saints’ free agent. The team has plenty of linebackers on the roster, but none of them have been enough to get much from this defense to be explosive.
Daiyan Henley and Denzel Perryman have been solid only when healthy. It shouldn’t be surprising if the Chargers sign Davis, which could interest the veteran, given that John Harbaugh loves to build an old-school defense philosophy.
Denver Broncos
Meanwhile, the Broncos are another promising destination for Davis. Denver is closer to the Super Bowl than they think. After losing Bo Nix to a season-ending injury, the team should be back in business to run it back. The Broncos had one of the best defenses, other than the Patriots and Texans.
They have an established linebacker group between Jonathon Cooper, Alex Singleton and Dre Greenlaw, but Davis doesn’t need a large role. He could still make an impact on a situational basis.
Chicago Bears
Similar to Denver, the future is promising for the Bears. Unfortunately, they could lose Tremaine Edmunds due to cap space. If that happens, the Bears should sign Davis on a cheaper contract. He won’t be a prime Brian Urlacher, but he’s a poised, hungry veteran who can continue to stabilize the Bears’ defense.
