Breaking: Saints Release Second-Round Bust

December 6, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

New Orleans Saints edge defender Isaiah Foskey struggled through his first two seasons with the team, and he won’t have a chance to redeem himself in Year 3. According to Nick Underhill, the team has released the pass rusher as they move towards today’s 53-man roster limit.

Saints Release Second-Round Bust Isaiah Foskey

Isaiah Foskey originally joined the NFL with the 40th-overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Selected by the New Orleans Saints, then-head coach Dennis Allen hoped Foskey could bring some fresh legs to an aging group of edge defenders. Unfortunately, he struggled to make an impact early, appearing in just 10 games without making a start while recording nine tackles, no tackles-for-loss, no quarterback hits, and no sacks.

This disappointing start proved to be a sign of things to come, as he couldn’t improve in Year 2. While he appeared in all 17 games, he still couldn’t earn a starting role and finished the season with just 16 tackles, no tackles-for-loss, and no sacks. New Orleans fired Dennis Allen after the season and replaced him with Kellen Moore, but it’s clear this regime change did not bring out the best in the veteran.

While Foskey hasn’t panned out at the NFL level, some team will probably take a risk on him, even if it’s just by signing him to the practice squad. While the Saints clearly didn’t get second-round value out of him, this pick was not considered a reach at the time. Other teams probably had a similar draft grade for him, and perhaps a new environment can bring out the best in the Notre Dame product.
