The New Orleans Saints may have missed out on the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes, but they now have their quarterback. According to NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, Jameis Winston will be back in New Orleans on a two-year deal.
“The Saints are re-signing QB Jameis Winston to a two-year deal with a base value of $28 million, including $21M guaranteed,” Pelissero tweeted. “So after missing out on Deshaun Watson, New Orleans turns to an old friend at QB.”

Winston performed well as the Saints starting QB last season. But an ACL injury ended his year and essentially did the same for New Orleans’ playoff chances.
In seven games, Jameis led the Saints to a 5-2 record, throwing for 1,170 yards and 14 touchdowns to just three interceptions. Which for Winston was especially promising considering his turnover history dating back to Florida State.

After Jameis went down, New Orleans went through a turnstile at QB; trotting out Trevor Siemian, Taysom Hill and even former Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book.
Somehow, the Saints finished the season above .500 despite the pile up of injuries. But, things will likely look different in 2022. Especially with Sean Payton no longer roaming the sideline.
If Winston can play anything like he did last year, NO could be in good shape. But it’s not exactly clear whether last season was the exception or the rule.
