Breaking: Former First-Round Bust Seeking NFL Return – 5 Possible Fits

After a couple of months in the UFL, the Las Vegas Raiders’ former first-round bust Damon Arnette is seeking an NFL return this upcoming season. According to reports, the cornerback wants to come back in time for the 2025 campaign after having one of the worst seasons in the NFL. Originally selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Raiders took a chance on the former Ohio State product, and Arnette wasn’t able to live up to expectations. After trading away Khalil Mack to acquire the cornerback early in that year’s draft, it was clear that he was more of a bust than ever being able to become a potential starter.

A video came out the following season after his injury issues, displaying that he making threats and brandishing firearms. The Raiders released the problematic secondary athlete before becoming a journey between the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs. After his release from Kansas City, it was the last straw for any NFL team that might pursue him, since he was arrested for several charges. Despite that, the cornerback has been having a solid season in the UFL, but he has been maturing and is ready if there is any team out there that is willing to give him a new opportunity.

He will only get a one-year contract at minimum, but these five teams could take a chance on him.

Potential Destinations

Dallas Cowboys

Even though the Dallas Cowboys got Kaiir Elam in a trade, they could use more cornerbacks for depth. Trevon Diggs is returning, but he’s on the hot seat this season since he hasn’t been able to stay healthy. Arnette might not get a chance, but he could be a reliable backup. Owner Jerry Jones always finds a way to give players second chances, and Arnette could be one of them.

Kansas City Chiefs

Meanwhile, many thought the Kansas City Chiefs’ secondary unit was going to be inconsistent due to L’Jarius Sneed leaving last offseason. However, Trent McDuffie stepped up in a huge way, but they still need some solid depth, and the team’s signing of Steven Nelson was proof of that. New free agent signee Kristian Fulton won’t single-handedly start full-time since he still has lingering injury issues, even though he was fully healthy for one season last year.

New Orleans Saints

However, the New Orleans Saints are in dire need of a cornerback before the 2025 campaign. The Saints can’t afford the best available cornerback, so they could use this opportunity to rejuvenate Arnette. Alontae Taylor and Kool-Aid McKinstry won’t guide this secondary by themselves, even though they got safety Justin Reid in free agency. Arnette could provide some much-needed relief.

Washington Commanders

The same depth issues can be said about the Washington Commanders. They have a great thing going on in their offense, but the same can’t be said about the secondary unit. Despite signing Jonathan Jones, he’s only on for a one-year deal and needs a capable replacement after losing Benjamin St-Juste. Arnette might not win the starting job, but it provides relief for veteran Marshon Lattimore, who has injury issues.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers’ secondary unit will look dramatically different this 2025 campaign. Donte Jackson is on lock as the starter, but they need some insurance behind 2024 draft pick Cam Hart. Tarheeb Still has a lot of potential, but they could sign Arnette on a cheap deal to provide some temporary stability if Hart isn’t ready.
