Despite reworking his contract this past offseason, the New York Jets might be willing to trade wide receiver Allen Lazard. According to Bleacher Report, they believe Allen doesn’t look like a fit for the offense, and since the Jets are 0-2, the season can only get worse for the team. While they did sign a promising quarterback, Justin Fields, he will now miss time as Tyrod Taylor will be taking over duties as the starting signal-caller for Week 3. If the Jets continue to be on a downward trend and Fields isn’t healthy, then there is reason to believe that the Jets may trade Lazard to garner some draft capital for the future.
The decision to readjust Lazard’s contract was a sign that the Jets wanted to hold onto him until he becomes a free agent next offseason, but if they did endure another losing season (which is likely), then they’d find a way to trade him. Originally selected as an undrafted rookie in 2018, the former Iowa State product’s best days are behind him after putting on a promising stint with the Green Bay Packers. Lazard originally joined the Jets in 2023 because of former Packer veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. However, it didn’t work out like the two had hoped, but it doesn’t mean Lazard shouldn’t be able to get a fresh start sooner rather than later.

Possible Next Teams
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys have one of the league’s best wide receiver duos, but the offense still looks shaky. Jalen Tolbert hasn’t been living up to his name ever since he came off a promising 2024 campaign, and with Jonathan Mingo still out dealing with an injury, the Cowboys could trade for a receiver to add depth. Lazard won’t be taking snaps away from George Pickens or CeeDee Lamb, but he would add on some firepower for what Dak Prescott needs to move the ball for a first down.
Even though they have KaVontae Turpin to step in for situational plays, they should get one more receiver to help him. Tolbert is entering the final year of his contract, and maybe his production can increase if they get Lazard in the mix to create some separation in the slot routes.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Meanwhile, no one should rule out another reunion between Aaron Rodgers and Lazard. Despite signing Isaiah Hodgins, he could be the perfect duo to tag with Lazard in the slot route. While they do have Roman Wilson, Calvin Austin and Scotty Miller for those types of situations, they still need a true veteran presence. Even though Lazard will be buried deep in the depth chart, he might be able to make an impact every time he’s out there since he will have a reduced, calm role.
New Orleans Saints
However, the New Orleans Saints are building for the future either way this season, despite going 0-2. After trading for DeVaughn Vele and claiming Trey Palmer off waivers, it’s obvious that the Saints know they’re not going to be a winning team this year. While this doesn’t mean a role reduced for Chris Olave or Rashid Shaheed, why not add a capable receiver who has experience to give New Orleans and Spencer Rattler a fighting chance alongside veteran Brandin Cooks?
