After two seasons in Indianapolis, the Colts could release 33-sack defensive end Samson Ebukam before the 2025 regular season. According to Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, he thinks there’s a chance that the Colts may cut ties with the veteran after missing the entire 2024 campaign. Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the former Eastern Washington product began his career with the Los Angeles Rams, competing against athletes like Morgan Fox and Cory Littleton for the backup outside linebacker role. Ebukam eventually won and made a few strides behind Robert Quinn and Connor Barwin.
Following his sophomore campaign, he won the starting job, putting up average numbers, and still made an impact each season while staying healthy. Ebukam spent two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before having a breakout campaign in 2023 with the Colts since signing his three-year contract with them. Unfortunately, the defensive end tore his Achilles after having one of the best seasons in 2023, so he had to miss the entire 2024 campaign. The Colts are waiting on his return, but there’s a chance the team could head in a different direction, especially since he’s in the last year of his deal.
He won’t garner the best suitors, but there will be some teams that may pursue him in free agency that could give him a second chance. Ebukam isn’t the MVP of all pass-rushers, but he does enough to make an impact and may fit with these five teams.

Next Possible Teams
Dallas Cowboys
Despite losing Demarcus Lawrence this offseason, the Cowboys made several moves to improve the defensive pass rush. After signing Jack Sanborn and bringing back Dante Fowler Jr, the team is in good shape to make an impact this year. However, Marshawn Kneeland might not be ready for full-time, and as long as Micah Parsons comes back, they could get Ebukam on a rotational basis to thrive under Matt Eberflus‘ philosophy.
Baltimore Ravens
Meanwhile, the Ravens probably have one of the worst trenches of defensive linemen following Michael Pierce’s retirement. Nnamdi Madubuike is still the best one apart from the unit, but the future doesn’t look promising alongside Travis Jones and Broderick Washington. They hoped that by signing Yannick Ngakoue last year, there would some some improvement. However, they let him go, and Ebukam could fill the hole and open the gaps as relief for several linebackers like Odafe Oweh and Kyle Van Noy.
Los Angeles Chargers
Jim Harbaugh wants to win in the trenches, but it looks like it’s been all talk rather than action. After releasing Joey Bosa and losing Poona Ford in one offseason, they need some type of rejuvenation. Free agent signee Da’Shawn Hand and defensive end Otito Ogbonnia won’t single-handedly save this trenches line, so they could be bolstered by getting Ebukam in the mix to shift things.
Washington Commanders
There were a lot of negative reactions when the Washington Commanders acquired Javon Kinlaw during free agency after releasing Jonathan Allen. While the offense has been explosive, it’s time for them to step up on defense. Ebukam could upgrade this line over Deatrich Wise Jr. to share the snaps.
New Orleans Saints
Despite adding Davon Godchaux for relief in the defensive tackle unit, the Saints need another capable lineman. General Manager Mickey Loomis always finds ways to pinch pennies and could do so with Ebukam. Since Cameron Jordan is aging and Khalen Saunders has been inconsistent, this would be a no-brainer signing for the Saints.
